Biography

Norman Sparling's name appears on the 1945 Supplementary List of the Collingham Electoral Roll, suggesting that he had served in the forces during World War 2. We have not yet been able to trace what that service was.

Family background

Norman Sparling was born on the 22nd August 1924, the son of William Sparling, a permanent way labourer for the LNER railway, and his wife Mary Emma Thirlwall.

At the time of the National Registration in 1939, Norman was living with his parents and brothers at 32 Brookside, Collingham, where Norman was described as a confectionery errand boy.

Service record

We have not yet traced a service record.

After the war

After the war, Norman continued living with his family at 32 Brookside throughout the 1950s. We think that Norman Sparling died in 1999 in Chesterfield.
