Biography

Family background

Beatrice Clark was born in Leeds in 1888, the daughter of John William Clark, a saddler and harness maker, and his wife, Georgina Elizabeth Clark. At some point the family moved to Collingham, and in 1911, we find John, Georgina and Beatrice, along with John's mother, all living at Rose Cottage, Collingham.

Service record

It was not only men who served during the war, women took increasingly important jobs and many volunteered for roles in the Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD). Beatrice served as a VAD nurse from 1st November 1916 until the 13th March 1918 at Catterick Camp Hospital. During that time, Beatrice was awarded a Scarlet Stripe on the 22nd January 1918.

Beatrice transferred to Mulgrave Castle Auxiliary Military Hospital in Whitby on the 23rd November 1918, and continued there until the 4th January 1919.

After the war

We do not know what Beatrice did after the war. If you have any further information, we would be pleased to hear from you.
