The name of William John Wilson appears on the 1918 electoral roll for Collingham, marked as absent due to Naval or Military Service.
William John Wilson was born on the 8th March 1899 in Collingham, the son of John Andrew Wilson and his wife Sarah. By 1911, William was living at The Post Office, Collingham with his aunt, the sub-postmistress, Ann Groves and his parents.
William's service record has not survived and we have not yet unequivocally tied his service to that of any of the large number of William John Wilsons who did serve.
We know that William was injured at least once during his service:
After the war, William returned to Collingham and he married Alice Eliza Green in Collingham Church on the 16th June 1928. William gave his profession at the time as a mechanic. In 1939, at the time of the 1939 registration at the start of World War 2, William was living at Sunnyside, Main Street, Collingham.
