White, Herbert
(1895-?)

Connection with Collingham, Linton or Micklethwaite and reason for inclusion on this web site
  • Named on printed lists of villagers in The Wetherby News or Collingham Parish Magazine

We have been unable to unequivocally identify this man.

The name of H. White appears in the Wetherby News in an article of the 18th September 1914 which lists men of the area who had volunteered to serve. He is listed at the time as having a connection to Micklethwaite.

The electoral rolls for 1912 to 1915 for Micklethwaite, all contain a voter, Robert Frederick White. Robert Frederick White also appears, in 1911, on the Micklethwaite census. He is married to his wife, Elizabeth and is living with one daughter, Florence. Tracing back further we find that Robert Frederick White had married Elizabeth Sanderson (note the maiden name) on the 3rd September 1893 in Bramham.

The 1911 census says that Robert and Elizabeth had had three children, two of whom were still alive at that time. Tracing Robert and his family back to the 1901 census finds them living in Clifford, Yorkshire. This time Robert is listed as Robert F White (the name used in the elctoral rolls). As well as George W Sanderson, who we think is wrongly annotated as Robert's son, Robert and Elizabeth are living with two children, Caroline White, aged 4 born in Clifford, and Herbert White, aged 6 born in Headley, Yorkshire. The birth records record a Caroline Florence White born in the Wetherby district in 1897, so we think Florence and Caroline are the same person. This would leave an unknown sibling who had died before 1911 and Herbert, who we think may be the H. White named in the Wetherby News. We have not been able to find Herbert's location in the 1911 census with certainty.
