(1891-?)

Connection with Collingham, Linton or Micklethwaite and reason for inclusion on this web site
  • Lived in Collingham, Linton or Micklethwaite immediately prewar or during the war
  • Named as an Absent Voter due to Naval or Military Service on the 1918 or 1919 Absent Voter list for Collingham, Linton or Micklethwaite

The name Harry Cook appears on both the 1918 and 1919 electoral rolls for Collingham marked as being an Absent Voter due to Naval or Military service, but there is no Harry Cook in the 1911 census for Collingham, and no service record has survived for a Harry Cook from Collingham. Our search for possible Harry Cooks had therefore to try other routes.

Our searches found a Harry Cook aged 28, a miner from Collingham, who married Edith Petch in St. Oswald's Church, Collingham on the 9th June 1920. Harry's father is named as Peter Cook, a farmer. From this information we were able to search the 1901 and 1911 censuses for Harry Cook, born about 1892, the son of Peter Cook. There was no obvious candidate in the 1911 census, but in 1901 we find Harry Cook aged 9, the son of Peter and Mary Cook, living at Station Cottages, Newton Kyme. Peter was an agricultural labourer. Harry was born in Seaton Ross, Yorkshire. By 1911, this Harry Cook is a servant, working as a horseman at Hare Park, Crofton, Wakefield on the farm of Jaby Green. It is likely that this Harry Cook moved to Collingham sometime between 1911 and 1918. A baptism record exists showing that this Harry Cook was actually born in 1891 and was baptised on 4th October 1891 at Seaton Ross. This makes Harry Cook the brother of Willie Cook, described elsewhere on this site.

Unfortunately there are too many men named Harry Cook who served in the Great War to identify exactly what service Harry saw. If you have any further information please use the CONTACT link to send us information.
