Family background

William John Wilson was born on the 8th March 1899 in Collingham, the son of John Andrew Wilson and his wife Sarah. By 1911, William was living at The Post Office, Collingham with his aunt, the sub-postmistress, Ann Groves and his parents.

Service record

William's service record has not survived and we have not yet unequivocally tied his service to that of any of the large number of William John Wilsons who did serve.

Pte. Wilson, of the Post Office, Collingham, is in hospital in France suffering from trench fever.

 

After the war

After the war, William returned to Collingham, appearing in the annual electoral rolls from 1919 to 1928. In that year he married Alice Eliza Green in Collingham Church on the 16th June 1928. William gave his profession at the time as a mechanic. William and Alice also appear in the Collingham electoral rolls from 1937 to 1939 at Sunnyside, Collingham. In 1939, at the time of the 1939 registration at the start of World War 2, William was living at Sunnyside, Main Street, Collingham.
