Biography
John James Richardson Whitelock was born in Horsforth on the 27th June 1889, the son of Charles and Sarah Whitelock.
On the 31st January 1912, John married Elsie Naylor at Leeds Parish Church and soon afterwards the couple settled in Collingham.
John and Elsie had three daughters: Gwendoline Richardson Whitelock (born in 1912), Eileen Richardson Whitelock (born in 1915), and Elsie Naylor Whitelock (born in 1920).
John's service record has not survived, but we know that he served in the 11th Battalion of the London Regiment with a service number 453664 and became a Lance Corporal. The medal roll for John Whitelock shows that John served in Egypt from the 19th August 1917 to his discharge on the 16th July 1919.
John survived the war, but died soon after in 1924.
