Biography
John Henry Wray was born in Collingham on the 14th July 1896, the son of James and Elizabeth Ann Wray. John was baptised in Collinham Church on the 25th November 1897. In 1911, John was living with his parents at Half Moon Cottages, Collingham.
John's service record has not survived but we know from his medal records that he served as Pioneer 98724 and WR/209371 in the Royal Engineers in World War 1.
John's brother, George Arthur Wray, served in the Royal Field Artillery in France and was Killed in Action.
John Henry Wray returned to the Wetherby area after the war. In 1939, at the time of the general registration in that year, John was living with the family of Dennis Ripley at Deighton Bar in Wetherby. John's occupation was given as wireless service mechanic.
John Henry Wray died in the Wetherby area in 1971.
