Biography
We have not yet identified Mary Eileen Crowther but her name appears as an absent voter on the 1918 and 1919 electoral rolls for Collingham.
Mary joined the Voluntary Aid Detachment in 1917 giving her address as being in Collingham.
Mary was engaged by the VAD in September 1917 and first served as a nurse for about 6 months until March 1918 at St.Luke's Military Hospital in Halifax. From March 1918 until December 1918 she then worked at Askham Grange Hospital near York, and in 1919 she continued to work as a VAD nurse then at Oulton Hall Officer's Hospital an establishment then dealing mainly with shell shock cases.
