Family background
William Dale was born in Micklethwaite on the 7th July 1894, the son of John and Helen Dale. In 1911, William was living with his parents at The Lodge, Micklethwaite and his occupation was given as 'Hall Boy'.
Service record
William was an early enlister in the Army, being listed in the Wetherby News on the 23rd October 1914 on the Roll of Local Men Serving King and Country.
Unfortunately no details of his service were provided and there are too many men named William Dale who served in the Army to be sure which is the man from Micklethwaite.
After the war
William returned from the Great War and on the 26th June 1926 he married Florence May Hugill in Wetherby. He went on living in the area for many years. In 1939, at the time of the 1939 registration, William and Florence were living at 26 St. James Street. William was a painter and had volunteered as an auxiliary fireman, while Florence was a housewife, but had volunteered for the ARP (Air Raid Precaution) Nursing Service.
William died in 1962 and both he and Florence are buried in St. James on the corner cemetery in Wetherby.
