We have been unable to identify this man.

On the 18th September 1914, the Wetherby News published a list of men who had volunteered for service. The name of J. Atkinson from Micklethwaite appears on that list, with a note that he had attested for service in York on the 8th September 1914. The Wetherby News further reported on the 23rd Oct a list of local men serving and again the name J. Atkinson appears, this time listed as coming from Wetherby Grange. Despite these few clues we have been unable to identify this man from service records or from the 1911 census.
