Family background

Dennis Copeland Rutherford appears on these pages since he was registered in the 1939 National Registration in Collingham. He had been born on the 29th April 1911 in Tynemouth. In the 1939 register, Dennis is listed at The Post Office and he is listed as being of 'Private Means'. At the time this would normally signify someone who had neither followed, or was following a profession or occupation but someone who derived their income from private sources or allowances.

Service record

The name Dennis Copeland Rutherford appears on the list of Airmen and Airwomen serving with the RAF in World War 2. He is noted as having joined the RAF at RAF Padgate sometime between September 1939 and February 1940. He was given the service number 1126748. At the moment we do not have any further details of his service.

After the war

Dennis Rutherford did not return to Collingham after the war. In 1947 he was living in Todmorden, and in 1949 he married Kathleen Emma Thomas there. Dennis Copeland Rutherford died in 2004.
